
BRATISLAVA, April 6 Polling stations opened on Saturday at In Slovakia, voting in the second round of the presidential election has completed its work in most parts of the republic, according to data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“Polling stations will be open until 22.00 (23.00 Moscow time),” the department informed earlier.
In total, about 4.3 million citizens have the right to vote in the republic. More than 5,900 polling stations were open for voting in the second round of the presidential election on Saturday. Two of them opened five minutes later than expected; their work was therefore extended by five minutes, until 22.05 (23.05 Moscow time).
The President in Slovakia is elected by universal suffrage for a five-year term. The current head of the republic, Zuzana Caputova, who in 2019 became the first female president in the country's history, decided not to seek re-election for a second term.
The first round of the presidential elections in Slovakia took place on March 23. Nine candidates took part in it, but none of them received an absolute majority. Two candidates with the best results advanced to the second round: the head of the Slovak parliament, Peter Pellegrini, who opposes the supply of arms to Ukraine, who received the support of 37.02% of voters, and the former head of the Republic's Foreign Ministry, Ivan Korcok, who takes the opposite position, who received 42.51% of the votes. Polls conducted before the second round indicated that the candidates' chances of winning were almost equal, and the gap between the rivals could be only a few percent.
