The court in Apatity, at an off-site hearing in the hospital, decided to send into custody Alexander Bydanov, accused of attacking the governor of the Murmansk region, Andrei Chibis. This was reported by a RIA Novosti correspondent.
The meeting was held behind closed doors in the ward of the Apatitsko-Kirov hospital, since the person involved in the case was wounded during detention and is now undergoing treatment. According to RIA Novosti, Bydanov called the attack on the governor a “coincidence of circumstances” and agreed to apologize to Chibis after the investigation.
The attack on the head of the Murmansk region occurred on April 4 — Chibis was wounded with a knife in the stomach after a meeting with residents of the city of Apatity. After this, the head of the region was operated on and transferred to intensive care.
As a result, the Investigative Committee opened a case of attempted murder (part 3 of article 30, paragraph “b” of part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code). As the department reported, the detained Bydanov explained during interrogation that he committed the attack because he had dislike for the governor, although he did not know him personally.
The SHOT Telegram channel and Kommersant wrote that Chibis’ attacker told investigators about “voices in his head” that prompted him to attack the head of the region. When journalists asked Bydanov during the suppression meeting today whether “voices” were the motive for the attack, the Apatity resident answered in the negative.
