A dolphin rescued by volunteers in Crimea recovered and swam out to sea.

SIMFEROPOL, April 7 A bottlenose dolphin, which washed ashore near Evpatoria and was transported to a quarantine pool, was treated and on Sunday was released into the sea to a pod of dolphins in Balaklava Bay, the Crimean dolphin rescue center “Serene Sea” reported.
A young red-listed bottlenose dolphin washed ashore near Evpatoria at the end of February. Employees of the center for the study, rescue and rehabilitation of dolphins in Crimea helped the animal on the shore and, after receiving permission from Rosprirodnadzor, transported the mammal to the quarantine pool. After therapy, the dolphin recovered, willingly played and took food. The center staff named the bottlenose dolphin Kimmy. Rosprirodnadzor gave permission for its release into the sea.

«We released our beloved Kimmy next to a group of bottlenose dolphins. He swam very quickly in their direction and disappeared into the sea, like the herd itself. We searched for them for three hours, but, alas, we did not meet them again. We will go out to sea again, if someone walks in the Balaklava area, look for a fin with a yellow tag, take a photo/video and send it to us!” — said in «The Serene Sea».

Dolphins washed ashore most often suffer from lung diseases, the center noted.
The Serene Sea Center responds to all reports of cetacean sightings on the coast of Crimea and Sevastopol. During 2017-2022, the center recorded over three thousand releases of Black Sea cetaceans listed in the federal and regional Red Books. More than 180 dolphins washed ashore alive. The center asks to immediately report sightings of dolphins.
