MOSCOW, April 5 The decision on who will perform duties of the governor of the Murmansk region will be accepted in the very near future, said the press secretary of the head of the region, Andrei Chibis, Liliya Sechkina on the Rossiya 24 TV channel.
On Thursday evening an attempt was made on Chibis's life. As the investigation established, a 42-year-old resident of Apatit, after waiting for the regional governor to finish his meeting with city residents, stabbed him in the stomach. After the assassination attempt, the man tried to escape from the scene, but was detained by members of the Russian National Guard. A criminal case has been opened for attempted murder in connection with official activities. In the Investigative Committee, the detainee explained his action by a feeling of personal hostility, although he was not familiar with the head of the region.
“A decision on duties will be made as soon as possible… And the governor will return to work as soon as he can,” Sechkina said.
