MOSCOW, April 8 The sturgeon stock in Russia is being restored, Rosrybolovstvo proposes to allow sterlet fishing on the Volga this year with a number of restrictions, said the head of the department Ilya Shestakov at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
«Such an important area as the reproduction of sturgeon: yes, it is not successful in all areas, but it is with sterlet that we now see that the stock has recovered strongly. This is noted by both amateur fishermen and industrialists. We carefully offer This year, already in certain areas of the Volga, sterlet will be opened for amateur fishing, but, of course, with certain restrictions on the timing of catching and fishing gear,” he said.
At the end of February, Shestakov announced , that so far the stock of sturgeon on the Volga can only be maintained, since the construction of a cascade of hydroelectric power stations has complicated spawning opportunities. However, according to him, fishing for some sturgeon stocks, including sterlet, will be allowed “for now for amateur fishing in the Middle Volga.”
