
MOSCOW, April 9. Senators may consider the candidacy of Irina Podnosova for the post of head of the Supreme Court at a meeting on April 17, parliamentarians will support her, said Alexander Bashkin, a member of the Constitutional Committee of the Federation Council.
The Federation Council received a proposal from Russian President Vladimir Putin on the appointment of Podnosova to the post of Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, the Constitutional Committee of the Federation Council reported earlier.
“We can expect the Federation Council to consider the candidacy of Irina Podnosova for the post of head of the Supreme Court on April 17; on April 16, this issue, accordingly, can be considered by the committee,” Bashkin said. He emphasized that all initiatives of the President of the Russian Federation are considered by legislators as a priority. According to him, senators will support Podnosova’s candidacy. “We discussed her candidacy earlier, when appointing her to the post of deputy head of the Armed Forces. We know her,” the politician said.
The Higher Qualification Board of Judges (HQJC) previously unanimously recommended the candidacy of Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation Podnosova for the post of Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation. Podnosova is the only candidate who has submitted documents for the position. The VKKS announced the opening of a vacant position on March 1 after the death of Vyacheslav Lebedev, who had headed the RF Armed Forces since 1991.
Podnosova graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Leningrad State University named after Zhdanov in 1975. She has been working as a judge since 1990, in 2020 she headed the Judicial Collegium for Economic Disputes of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.
