Roskomnadzor demanded that Duolingo check its content for “LGBT propaganda”

Roskomnadzor sent a request to the language learning service Duolingo to check its content for “LGBT propaganda,” the department’s press service told Interfax.

As noted, the RKN recalled that the service “has Russian analogues,” but they are not mentioned in the Interfax note.

Conservative activists from «Siberian human rights group «Radetel».

As an example of «LGBT propaganda», activists of «Guardians» cited sentences from assignments that needed to be translated: «Ben and Peter love each other. They are gay» and «Clara met her wife Maria at lesbian bar».

Activists from «Guardians» in September last year achieved in Novosibirsk the cancellation of the performance of symphonic versions of songs by the group Rammstein, and after that they wrote denunciations against local bar «Elton Bar», which is now being checked for extremism — this is stated in the response of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, published by the activists themselves.

Duolingo is a free service for learning foreign languages, launched in the USA.
