VLADIVOSTOK, April 11Investigators opened a criminal case after the death of a girl who first fell through the ice with her parents on a snowmobile in the Gulf of the Cross in Chukotka, and then died on the way with the reindeer herders who saved her, reports the regional SUSC RF.
“»In connection with the death of a minor girl and her parents in the waters of the Bay of the Cross, a criminal case has been initiated… on the grounds of a crime under Part 3 of Article 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence of two or more persons),» it says message.
The day before, the head of Chukotka, Vladislav Kuznetsov, reported that the girl called the Unified Dispatch Service and said that the snowmobile she was riding with her parents had fallen through the ice. They were heading from the village of Egvekinot to the village of Konergino. The child was found on the ice of Kresta Bay by reindeer herders; they had to take her to the brigade. On Thursday, Kuznetsov said that contact with these people had been lost, and rescuers and volunteers set out to search for them. From a helicopter, they found a child without signs of life; nearby there was a lane into which the tracks of a snowmobile, presumably reindeer herders, led. They and the girl's parents were not found; the search was suspended due to bad weather and thin ice in the area.
