The fourth power unit of the Zaporozhye NPP was transferred to the “cold shutdown” state in normal mode. The procedure was carried out in accordance with regulatory documents. This is stated in the official statement of the management of the nuclear power plant.
“Cold shutdown” is a safe state of the reactor when its operation is stopped at low pressure and low temperature of the cooling water. No violations of the limits and conditions of safe operation were recorded.
“Now all six units are in the “cold shutdown” state,” the message said.
This is necessary for the safety of the nuclear power plant, which is subject to attacks by Ukrainian drones.
The fifth power unit of the Zaporozhye NPP was also switched to “cold shutdown” mode in November 2023. This decision was made following the discovery of a slight excess of boron, but nuclear safety is a key priority and the reactor was shut down to analyze the cause of the excess.
