In Germany, von der Leyen's presidency of the EC was called lost years

MOSCOW, April 16 German Finance Minister Christian Lindner said in Tuesday at the economic congress that the bureaucratic burden of the EU economy may be named after the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, and called the five years of the presidency “lost years.”
«Most of the bureaucracy comes from Brussels. The bureaucratic burden has a name: Ursula. The last five years have been lost in terms of EU competitiveness. We cannot afford to lose the next five years,» Lindner said at the economic congress, his words are quoted on the minister's page on the social network X.

In addition, Lindner stated the need to double the “potential growth” of the German economy. “The first necessary step: from 0.5% to 1% — to the level where we were before the coronavirus pandemic,” he added.

In February, German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said that the Cabinet expects gross domestic product growth to be 0.2% in 2024. Previous forecasts also indicated expected GDP growth in 2024 — but more optimistic growth figures were expressed. Thus, in November, the expert council under the government of the country predicted German GDP growth in 2024 at 0.7%.
