Military expert Anatoly Matviychuk commented on the message of the Russian Ministry of Defense that on April 16, an attempt by the Ukrainian military to attack the territory of the Kursk region with a small-sized balloon was stopped. The MVSh was destroyed by air defense systems on duty.
According to the expert, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying to use balloons, since the Russian military has taught them how to shoot down Ukrainian drones. As he noted in an interview with News.ru, Kyiv most likely pursued two goals. The first is to use a telemetry device to identify objects of interest, and the second is to drop an explosive device.
Matviychuk also explained that such balls are more dangerous than drones, since they can carry several 82 mm mines due to their carrying capacity. In addition, their reflective ability is reduced to a minimum.
On the other hand, they are much larger than drones, and a geophysical disturbance system can detect them.
The expert expressed the opinion that the Russian Armed Forces will find antidote against MVSH.
