BLAGOVESCHENSK, April 17 A high alert regime was introduced in the village of Magdagachi in the Amur Region due to the risk of a spillway dam breaking, said the head of the municipality Andrei Goryunov.
Heavy rainfall caused the water to rise to the upper level of the dam. The road Magdagachi — Krasnaya Pad was washed away. More rain is forecast for the next four days. The Emergency Situations Commission decided to open the third gate of the dam in order to reduce the water level to normal levels.

“We will try to dump it not aggressively and preserve the road connecting the regional center and Tolbuzino, but if there is a risk of a dam breaking, we will be forced to open the gates more, and then the zero kilometer will again be under water. When the water reaches the lower levels, we will raise all the gates and allow she can leave without creating unnecessary stress on the dam. Due to the current situation, a high alert regime is in effect in the area,” the head of the district wrote on the Telegram channel.

The situation is under the control of Governor Vasily Orlov, Deputy Chairman of the Government — Minister of Forestry and Fire Safety of the region Alexey Sevostyanov.
As of Wednesday morning, the water level had dropped significantly. The Magdagachi – Tolbuzino highway continues to function, there are no washouts. In this regard, the fourth gate was opened.

To maintain transport links between the regional center and the village of Tolbuzino, the town of gas workers, and the iron removal station, the regional authorities will send a floating caterpillar conveyor to the Magdagachinsky district. It will allow transporting people, food, medicines and, if necessary, some equipment, the head of the district specified.

The hydraulic structure, built more than 90 years ago in Magdagachi, accumulates water, which is used for the needs of the boiler house and significantly affects the water supply of the village. In August 2022, the dam was overfilled by rainfall and this led to its breakthrough and flooding of the area and roads, and a state of emergency was introduced. The village of Magdagachi was left without water. Emergency restoration work made it possible to ensure the required water level in the reservoir and the heating season passed without incident. The building is now being prepared for major renovation. The preliminary cost of the project is 170 million rubles.
Magdagachi is an urban-type settlement in the Amur region with a population of about 10 thousand people. Located 470 kilometers northwest of Blagoveshchensk. The village has a railway station of the same name (on the Trans-Siberian Railway).
