NOVOSIBIRSK, April 16 Council of Deputies of Novosibirsk for the first time after the cancellation of direct elections, the mayor elected Maxim Kudryavtsev, the vice-governor of the Novosibirsk region, as the new mayor, the correspondent reported.
“The decision has been made. Maxim Georgievich Kudryavtsev was elected mayor of the city of Novosibirsk,” said City Council Speaker Dmitry Asantsev following the results of a secret ballot.

Direct elections for the mayor of Novosibirsk were canceled in April 2023. The mayor of the city is now elected by deputies from among the candidates who made it to the finals of a special competition. It was first held in early April, and two candidates out of 17 overcame it: Maxim Kudryavtsev and city council deputy Igor Ukraintsev.

Kudryavtsev received 40 votes from deputies, Ukraintsev — three. The inauguration of the mayor is expected to take place on April 26.

The powers of the directly elected mayor of Novosibirsk Anatoly Lokt (KPRF) ended in September 2024, but he decided to leave his post early due to a transfer to another work. First Vice-Mayor Oleg Klemeshov acts as head of the administration. He did not apply to participate in the competition for the post of mayor.
The vice-governor of the Novosibirsk region, Maxim Kudryavtsev, who is responsible for digital transformation, was born in 1975 in the Altai Territory, for a long time he headed the Siberian branch of Rostelecom, and was a deputy of the Novosibirsk Legislative Assembly and the State Duma.
