Rezvani Retro RR1: American retro mod based on the legendary Porsche 935

The American company Rezvani Motors is launching a new division, Rezvani Retro, which will offer modern cars, stylized as classic ones. The debut model of the Rezvani Retro line was the RR1 coupe based on the current generation 992 Porsche 911 with a carbon fiber tail in the style of the Porsche 935 and modified technical components.

Rezvani Motors, headquartered in Irvine, California, was founded in 2013 by entrepreneur Ferris Rezvani. It began with the construction of small-scale sports cars on the Ariel Atom and Lotus Elise chassis, in 2017 it switched to brutal SUVs with monstrous military design, and has recently returned to sports cars and presented the new mid-engine Rezvani Beast, based on the Chevrolet Corvette C8. Retromods are a completely new line of business for the Californian company: Ferris Rezvani saw great potential in this niche, especially since in technical terms, retromods (modern cars stylized as classic cars) are easier to make than restomods (modernized classic cars).

The Rezvani Retro RR1 is inspired by the classic Porsche 935 — a racing car developed by Porsche in the mid-1970s based on the then Porsche 911. The pinnacle of the Porsche 935's racing career was its victory in the Le Mans 24-hour marathon in 1979, to which we recently dedicated a separate historical material . In 2018, Porsche introduced a factory retro mod — the new Porsche 935, made on the basis of the 700-horsepower Porsche 911 GT2 RS of the 991 generation. The new Porsche 935 was produced in an edition of 77 copies exclusively as a track car, each costing the customer at least 700,000 euros. Now Rezvani has its own interpretation of the Porsche 935.

1/3 2/3 3/p>Rezvani Retro RR1 is offered in three versions. The base RR1 550 is based on the current Porsche 911 Carrera S, its 3.0-liter turbo engine is boosted to 450 hp. up to 527 hp in road specification and 558 hp. in the track.

The average Rezvani Retro RR1 565 is based on the Porsche 911 GT3/GT3 RS with a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated engine, in stock this engine produces 510-525 hp, and on Rezvani Retro RR1 565 — 542 hp. in road specification and 573 hp. in the track.

To make the top-end Rezvani Retro RR1 750, you need the original Porsche 911 Turbo S with a 3.8-liter turbo engine producing 650 hp, Rezvani increases its output to 725 hp. in road specification and 760 hp. in the track.

The RR1 550 and RR1 565 are rear-wheel drive and can be equipped with a manual or PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission. The RR1 750 is all-wheel drive and only available with an 8-speed PDK gearbox, reaching 60 mph (96.56 km/h) in just two seconds. All versions of the Rezvani Retro RR1 have a retuned suspension; for an additional fee, adjustable Öhlins TTX-Pro shock absorbers and powerful Brembo brakes are offered.

The body of the Rezvani Retro RR1 does not literally quote the Porsche 935, but only conveys its spirit, while the retro-mod’s headlights are deliberately modern, like those of the latest Porsche electric vehicles. The entire new exterior body, with the exception of the doors, is made of carbon fiber. Vinyl wrap with Martini style is an option. The wheels, made in a classic racing style, are shod with modern low-profile tires measuring 275/35 R 20 at the front and 335/30 R 21 at the rear. The interior remains largely stock, with an optional built-in roll cage and polycarbonate glass available.

Rezvani Retro will build just 50 examples of the RR1, with prices starting at $149,000 excluding the donor car and rising accordingly as the order portfolio is filled. It takes from three to six months to produce one copy of Rezvani Retro RR1.
