Startsev was released from custody in the courtroom. The prosecutor's office asked to fine him 500 thousand rubles.
The teacher was detained in Moscow in September 2023 and taken to Orel, where the court placed him under arrest. Startsev’s acquaintances told Sever.Realii that he supported Alexei Navalny during his 2018 presidential campaign. According to Memorial, Startsev was charged with transferring seven thousand rubles to the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK).
In June 2021, the Moscow City Court recognized FBK as an “extremist” organization. After this, Mediazona found out that at least 15 people became involved in criminal cases regarding donations to the fund.
