
MOSCOW, April 18 The number of cyber attacks on Russian Railways in the first quarter of 2024 increased by 5% compared to the same period last year and amounted to more than 1 million , Deputy Head of Russian Railways Evgeny Charkin said in an interview.
“This year there is also growth: in the first quarter, more than 1 million attacks on our infrastructure were recorded and neutralized. And this is almost 5% more than in the same period last year,” he said. 
At the same time, in 2023 the number of cyber attacks increased four times compared to the level of 2021.
Charkin noted that the vector and sophistication of cyber attacks is changing. Hackers are inventing new ways to attack.
«Therefore, we have built a layered, multi-stage information security system. We have our own departments that are responsible for information security, and we use the developments of specialized companies,» concluded Charkin. 
Previously, the holding reported that by the end of 2023 it had prevented more 4 million attacks.
At the end of last year, the director of the department of digital development of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Skachkov, reported that since the beginning of 2022, an increased yellow level of danger for targeted computer attacks has been established for 35 transport organizations, and a critical red level for 10 organizations. The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation organized work to improve the security of the information infrastructure.
