Kyiv intends to receive $10 billion for the purchase of weapons

MOSCOW, April 18 Ukraine expects to receive $10 billion from other countries in 2024 for the purchase of weapons from Ukrainian manufacturers for their further transfer to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the minister said on issues of strategic industries Alexander Kamyshin.
«»The project «Zbroyari: Manufacturing Freedom» was born. This is a global fundraising campaign, a strategic collection — not for people, but for entire nations. Its goal is to raise 10 billion dollars for the production of Ukrainian weapons this year. Today we have the first donation. This decision is significant, it opens the way for other countries,” the ministry’s press service quotes Kamyshin as saying.

He explained that the Ukrainian military-industrial complex is capable of producing weapons worth 20 billion dollars, but Ukraine has only 6 billion dollars to purchase domestic weapons. According to Kamyshin, only a third of the available machines are operating in the country, “because there is not enough money to provide the rest with orders.” The ministry also said that the first foreign country to allocate funds for the purchase of weapons from Ukrainian factories was Denmark, which on Tuesday decided to provide $28.5 million for this purpose.

As the Financial Times wrote in March, citing Roksolana Pidlasa, chairwoman of the Verkhovna Rada Budget Committee, Ukraine has allocated almost half of its $87 billion annual budget to defense spending, but its domestic revenues amount to only $46 billion. The deficit is expected to widen further due to the expected wave of mobilization, as billions will be needed to pay, train and equip conscripts.
As Ukrainian parliamentarian Alexandra Ustinova previously stated, holes in the state budget are being closed with the help of Western funding; if assistance from the United States is stopped, the authorities will be forced to turn “with an outstretched hand” to the G7 countries. At the end of November, Vladimir Zelensky signed a draft law on the state budget of Ukraine for 2024 with a deficit of more than $43 billion.
