MOSCOW, April 15. The first All-Russian festival of national theaters opened in Elista. It will be held in Kalmykia from April 15 to 20 this year.
“Seven theaters representing the culture of different peoples of our multinational country will meet to exchange experiences and show their art to a wide audience in Elista. It is gratifying that most of the theaters will bring performances based on the works of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin to show, paying tribute to the 225th anniversary of the great poet,” — the press service of the show quoted Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova.

On the stage of the National Drama Theater named after B. Basangov, the National Youth Theater of the Republic of Bashkortostan named after Mustai Karim, the National Drama Theater named after P. V. Kuchiyak (Altai Republic), the Theater for Young Spectators (Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Gornomarysky Drama Theater (Republic of Mari El), Chuvash State Theater for Young Spectators named after M. Sespel, as well as the Moscow Musical Drama Gypsy Theater «Romen».

“I am doubly pleased as a native of Kalmykia that the new festival is being held in Elista,” said Elena Bulukova, chairman of the organizing committee of the festival of national theaters, director of the State Academic Puppet Theater named after Obraztsov. “This is an important part of the state program. Preservation and support of cultural traditions is relevant and strategic task. I know that many of our national theaters are already familiar with each other, even friends, and I hope that this tradition will be preserved.»
The selection, according to Elena Nikolaevna, was very serious, there were many applications. Productions based on the works of Russian classics, primarily A. S. Pushkin, were selected.
The opening ceremony of the festival took place on April 15 on the central square of Elista. It ended with a procession of artists in national costumes. Next, the first performance will be shown at the National Drama Theater named after B. Basangov — “The Captain’s Daughter” by the National Youth Theater of the Republic of Bashkortostan named after M. Karim.

“I am convinced that the theater festival will become an unforgettable event in the cultural life of our republic and will go down in the history of the Russian festival movement as a bright celebration of art and creative community of representatives of the multinational culture of the peoples of Russia,” noted the head of the Republic of Kalmykia Batu Khasikov in a welcoming message.
“First of all, I want to express my deep gratitude to the Ministry of Culture of Russia, Olga Borisovna Lyubimova for supporting the initiative to create this festival. And of course, Elena Nikolaevna Bulukova for organizing such a significant event for the history and culture of Kalmykia at a high level,” said the minister Culture and Tourism of Kalmykia Saglar Tyurbeeva — I hope that this festival will be annual.»
“I am glad to welcome all guests — both old and new — to Kalmyk soil. This festival will be very significant for our republic,” said the general director of the Basangov National Drama Theater Galina Shurayeva. “Thank you for your trust and for choosing our site. The show program includes a professional section for theater managers and specialists from cultural institutions, as well as artists, management lectures and creative master classes, a laboratory of national drama and reviews of performances with critics.
The festival will end on April 20 with a screening of the production “Woe from Wit” by the National Drama Theater named after B. Basangov. All performances will be accompanied by online broadcasts on the official website of the festival.
The festival is organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Russia and the government of the Republic of Kalmykia by the Capital Foundation.
