Two people were detained in Poland on suspicion of attacking opposition leader Leonid Volkov in Vilnius, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda announced this at a press conference. His words are quoted by the LTR agency.
“Two people have been detained in Poland on suspicion of beating Russian opposition leader Leonid Volkov. I thank the Republic of Poland for the excellent work it has done. I discussed this with the President of Poland and thanked them for their excellent cooperation. In the near future, after the completion of the procedural actions, these persons will be transferred to Lithuania,” Nausėda said.
The President of Lithuania did not provide other details of the detention.
Alexey Navalny's ally Leonid Volkov was attacked in Vilnius on the evening of March 12. Doctors recorded that the oppositionist had a broken arm and a bruised leg due to blows with a hammer. The attack began to be investigated by the Lithuanian police anti-terrorist unit Aras.
On March 14, the head of the Lithuanian State Security Department (VSD) Darius Jauniskis said that, according to preliminary data, Volkov was attacked by a man recruited by the Russian special services.
