Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the detention of a Belarusian citizen as part of the investigation into the attack on Leonid Volkov.
According to him, the man “worked for the Russians” and “ordered the murder of Navalny’s comrade-in-arms” to two Poles. Their detention became known earlier today.
The attackers are “connected with circles of ultra-football fans,” Tusk added.
Details about the detained Polish citizens were also provided by the Lithuanian police. Two men were detained on April 3 in Warsaw (one of them, according to the Polish state news agency PAP, in the capital's Gotslaw microdistrict). They, as Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda said, will soon be handed over to the country's authorities.
Alexey Navalny's ally Leonid Volkov was attacked in Vilnius on the evening of March 12 near his home. Volkov recalled that his car window was broken, tear gas was sprayed in his eyes, and his leg was hit several times with a hammer. Doctors recorded that the oppositionist had a broken arm and a bruised leg due to blows with a hammer. The anti-terrorism unit of the Lithuanian police, ARAS, was brought in to investigate the attack.
The case was opened under the article of attack by an organized group out of political hatred (part 3 of article 25, paragraph 13 of part 2 of article 138 of the Criminal Code of Lithuania).
