In London police have arrested a British man suspected of violating the new national security law, The Sunday Times newspaper reports. Law enforcement agencies claim that this man acted in the interests of Russia.
He was detained on April 10, but the investigation did not disclose his gender and name. Charges were laid on 19 April and the following day Westminster Magistrates' Court extended his remand until 10 May. The trial will take place at London's Old Bailey Central Criminal Court. The investigation is being carried out by Scotland Yard's Counter-Terrorism Unit. Details of the charges have not yet been disclosed.
The updated national security law in the UK came into force in December 2023. It expanded law enforcement powers against individuals suspected of espionage, sabotage and acting on behalf of foreign states against Great Britain
