FT: Blinken will threaten sanctions for supporting Russia during his visit to China
US State Department Head Antony Blinken may threaten the Chinese authorities with sanctions during his upcoming visit to China, the Financial Times writes.
As the publication notes, citing sources, the reason for imposing sanctions could be “support for the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation” and the provision of “weapons-related technologies” to Moscow.
Earlier, the State Department had already talked about that during his visit to China Blinken will raise the topic of cooperation between Moscow and Beijing, which “threatens European security and does not meet China’s interests.”
At the same time, the FT writes that Blinken will not mention what kind of “punitive Washington may take measures, but these may include sanctions against Chinese financial and other organizations. The article said Blinken's threats would be «the clearest warning yet» of those made against Beijing.
Blinken will visit China April 24-26.
