MOSCOW, April 22 EU countries intend to expand sanctions against Russia a ban on the import of liquefied natural gas, said Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström. His words are quoted on the website of the European Commission.
“
"We will discuss how to increase support for Ukraine. The adoption of the 14th package of sanctions is one of the most important things, we intend to include a ban on LNG imports,” he told reporters upon arrival at the Council of Foreign Ministers in Luxembourg.
Formerly Director of the First European Department Russian Foreign Ministry Artem Studennikov stated that the European Union's attempts to limit purchases of liquefied natural gas from Russia will lead to a sharp rise in prices, for Brussels this is tantamount to “shooting itself in the foot.”
According to him, many European energy companies are still considering gas supplies from Russia as one of the options for diversifying imports in the context of increasing EU dependence on American LNG.
