Ukraine has received the bodies of 140 dead soldiers, the country’s coordination headquarters for working with prisoners of war reported. Russia returned the bodies of 36 people, State Duma deputy Shamsail Saraliev told RBC.
The last time the countries exchanged bodies of military personnel was on April 12. Then Ukraine returned 99 bodies of the dead, Russia — 23. Previously, in 2024, exchanges took place on March 29, March 15, February 16 and January 26.
Since June 2022, body exchanges have been taking place with the support of the Red Cross mission. Most often this happens on the Russian side — on the border with the Sumy region of Ukraine. To allow trucks with bodies to pass through, the border strip is temporarily cleared of mines.
