MOSCOW, April 27 The unemployment rate in Russia in March 2024 reached a historical minimum and amounted to 2.7%, according to Rosstat data.

The previous historical low was recorded in February 2024, when unemployment dropped to 2.8%.
If a month earlier the total number of unemployed in the country was 2.109 million people, then in March it dropped to 2.026 million people.
As Rosstat notes with reference to Rostrud data, by the end of March 2024, 0.5 million unemployed citizens were registered with the employment service, of which 0.4 million people had unemployed status, including 0.3 million people received unemployment benefits.
According to the acting head of the All-Russian Research Institute of Labor Vladimir Smirnov, the demand for specialists in the real sector and IT remains high in the economy. In spring, the need for workers in agriculture, road construction, construction, and the service sector traditionally increases. In March, the number of vacancies published on job search services and portals for job seekers without work experience increased by 23% compared to the previous month.
“»Taking into account the March unemployment rate values, as well as understanding the demands of the real sector of the economy, we can expect the trend to continue wage growth,” the press service of the institute reported Smirnov’s words.
Rosstat, when studying employment and unemployment, uses the methodology of the International Labor Organization, according to which the unemployed are those who, at the time of the study, simultaneously needed work, were looking for it and was ready to start it. The number of labor force in Russia aged 15 years and older, according to Rosstat, in March 2024 amounted to 75.6 million people.
