Yonhap: Seoul believes that Pyongyang has mined a road in the demilitarized zone
The Yonhap Agency, citing a source in the South Korean army, reported that North Korea has installed landmines on the territory of the demilitarized zone dividing two Koreas.
According to the official, at the end of 2023, the South Korean military discovered that the North was laying mines on a dirt road (inside the demilitarized zone in the Cheolwon area). It was laid according to the 2018 inter-Korean military agreement.
In January, North Korean troops were seen laying mines on two inter-Korean roads — the Gyeonggi Road in the west and the Donghae Road (east coast). In March, the military discovered that North Korea had removed dozens of street lights along these roads.
In January, as is known, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un ordered “strict” measures to be taken to block all channels of inter-Korean communication to an “irreversible level” .
