MOSCOW, May 3. Security forces liquidated a Ukrainian military intelligence agent who was preparing a series of terrorist attacks in Russia, the FSB Public Relations Center reported.
«The saboteur was identified during the seizure of another cache of weapons in the Gatchina district of the Leningrad region, which he planned to use to commit a terrorist attack at a fuel terminal in the Tosnensky district. <…> When detained, he offered armed resistance using firearms and was neutralized,” the message says.
We are talking about a Russian citizen born in 1976, who was a member of a banned Ukrainian terrorist organization. He arrived from Lithuania in March of this year.
According to security officials, he was planning a series of terrorist attacks, including on Defense Ministry facilities in the Moscow region, as well as against members of one of the volunteer battalions and a volunteer center in St. Petersburg.
Initially, they tried to detain the saboteur in the Moscow region near the hiding place. He offered armed resistance and disappeared. In the abandoned car they found a Stechkin automatic pistol, a hunting rifle, grenades, bomb components, documents and a mobile phone. Explosives and ammunition were seized from a garage and apartment rented in Moscow, as well as a card from the Lithuanian branch of the Swedish SwedBank.
A criminal case was opened under articles «Preparation for sabotage» and «Illegal trafficking in explosives or explosive devices.»
As a result of further investigation, the saboteur was discovered and eliminated in the Leningrad region. They found a weapon, an explosive device and means of communication with the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, which was planning his evacuation from Russia after the terrorist attacks.
Correspondence with the curator showed that the Ukrainian agent was trained in mine explosives and shooting in the Lithuanian city of Pabrade. In the future, it was planned for him to participate in hostilities on the side of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. In addition, the Ukrainian terrorist organization was going to “completely eradicate everything Russian” in the Baltic countries; it planned terrorist attacks in Orthodox churches and places of residence of Russian-speaking residents, in particular, to set fire to a cinema in Riga during a show.
