MOSCOW, May 3.The total markup on socially significant goods in Russia has decreased by more than 3 times since 2021, to 6.4%; responsible pricing practices were supported not only by federal chains, but also by a number of non-chain stores, as well as regional retailers, the press service reported Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia.
«»At the suggestion of the service, a number of federal chains voluntarily limited markups on the «first price» positions of 25 categories of socially significant goods. This largely contributed to a decrease in the total level of markups on these goods in 11 federal chains by 15.8% (from 22.2% in August 2021 to 6.4% currently). The practice of responsible pricing was also supported by a number of non-chain stores and regional retail chains, including those included in the Union of Independent Chains of Russia,” the service reported.
It is noted that the FAS is actively working with retail chains on the issue of pricing for essential food products.
In addition, in 27 regions, agreements on stabilizing prices for socially important products were concluded between authorities and 10,598 business entities. These include 33 manufacturers, 32 suppliers and 10,533 retail organizations.
According to the service, the set of measures taken helps to stabilize the price situation in the consumer market and increase the availability of socially significant goods for citizens. This also applies to situations where suppliers, for various reasons, increase prices for products. Retail chains are smoothing out these changes by limiting their own markups to maintain consumer demand.
