The exhibition «Makovskys. Konstantin and Vladimir» has been extended in Serpukhov

MOSCOW, May 2. The exhibition «Makovskys. Konstantin and Vladimir» at the Serpukhov Historical and Art Museum has been extended until August 11, reports the press service of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Moscow Region.
Now residents and guests of the Serpukhov District will be able to enjoy the exhibition longer, which presents paintings from the leading federal museums of Russia: the Hermitage, the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, the Pushkin Museum named after A.S. Pushkin and others, as well as from private collections.

The department recalled that this is the first exhibition deployed in the new exhibition space of the museum — the former «Carriage Barn» — a cultural heritage site of regional significance, which is part of the ensemble of the city estate of the Maraev merchants. Its restoration lasted from 2020 to 2023. The building, which was used as an outbuilding in the 19th century, acquired a historical appearance, which returned the estate to its holistic appearance.
The exhibition brought together works from all cycles of the Makovsky brothers: Konstantin (1839-1915) and Vladimir (1846-1920). The exhibition is divided into two parts, representing the lineages of each of the brothers.
In the central hall of the exhibition, the image of the “Makovsky house” and “reading in a close circle” is recreated. Another title of the exhibition, “Pictorial Reading,” refers the viewer to the narrative nature of the images created by the artists, which is reflected in the exhibition design and literary quotes accompanying the brothers’ works. The exhibition project includes lectures, excursions, including curatorial ones, master classes and conversations for schoolchildren.
