AFP: 16 people killed in Rafah as a result of Israeli airstrikes
16 people were killed in Israeli airstrikes in the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip, AFP reported on Monday, citing doctors and emergency responders.
According to the news agency, seven people from one family and nine from another were killed. Medical sources, meanwhile, confirmed the two strikes, which they said took place in two different locations in the Rafah area.
The airstrikes came hours after Hamas claimed responsibility for a rocket attack on the outskirts of Rafah, which the Israelis said killed three Israeli soldiers. Hamas' armed wing said it fired rockets at an Israeli army base on Kerem Shalom.
The Israeli military confirmed a retaliatory strike, saying it hit a launcher that fired Hamas missiles as well as a nearby «military construction.»
