The second convertible after the SL model appeared in the Mercedes-AMG sports line — the four-seater Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4Matic+ Cabriolet, it is on sale will appear next fall.
Last summer, Mercedes-Benz combined the two-door C-Class and E-Class models into one CLE family. The Mercedes-Benz CLE convertible was presented in February this year, and today the premiere of its most powerful version, the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4Matic+, took place.
In technical terms, the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4Matic+ Cabriolet is completely identical to the coupe of the same name: it has a fully controlled chassis and a switchable power take-off clutch on the front axle — this function allows you to slightly reduce fuel consumption when driving on dry asphalt and implement a drift mode, that is, the driver can turn nickels in the company of three friends at once, combining this attraction with sunbathing.

Compared to the coupe, the convertible body has a number of additional reinforcements in the underbody area, shooting safety arches in case of rollover, and a complex mechanism for folding the roof with electric drive — all this, of course, affected the weight, about which the official press release is modestly silent. The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4Matic+ coupe weighs exactly 2 tons when loaded. The convertible is obviously a little heavier, but not slower than the coupe: it reaches the first “hundred” in the same 4.2 seconds, the top speed is limited to 250 km/h (with the AMG Driver's Package option — 270 km/h).

Under the hood of the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4Matic+ Cabriolet is installed an in-line 6-cylinder 3.0-liter gasoline engine M256M with combined supercharging: the turbocharger at low speeds is assisted by an electrically driven impeller, compensating for the so-called turbo lag, and the maximum boost pressure is 1.5 bar. The maximum output of the internal combustion engine is 449 hp. at 5800-6100 rpm and 560 Nm at 2200-5000 rpm, in overboost mode the maximum torque increases for ten seconds to 600 Nm. The gearbox is a 9-speed automatic AMG Speedshift TCT 9G with a 48-volt starter-generator (23 hp, 205 Nm) implanted into it; it assists the gasoline engine during intense acceleration.

The standard equipment of the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4Matic+ Cabriolet includes AMG Ride Control sports spring suspension with adaptive shock absorbers and perforated disc brakes: the diameter of the front brake discs is 370 mm (four-piston fixed calipers), the rear ones are 360 mm (single-piston floating calipers). Standard wheels are 19- or 20-inch.

The interior of the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4Matic+ Cabriolet is essentially the same as the less powerful CLE convertibles, but with additional ambient lighting and carbon inserts. The seats have a special coating that reflects the sun's rays and reduces heat. The front seats are equipped with a system for supplying warm air to the neck area. The roof can be folded/lowered in just 20 seconds at speeds up to 60 km/h. Trunk volume is 385 liters with the roof up and 295 liters with the roof folded.

The price of the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4Matic+ Cabriolet has not yet been announced, a similar coupe costs in Germany from 91,511 euros — therefore, for a Kubrick you will have to pay around 100,000 euros. More status, but less practical, the Mercedes-AMG SL convertible with a 2+2 seating formula costs from 127,145 euros.
