MOSCOW, May 8. New York Rangers hockey players defeated the Carolina Hurricanes in the second game of the second round series of the National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs.
The meeting, which took place in New York, ended in victory for the home team in the second overtime with a score of 4:3 (1:2, 1:1, 1:0, 0:0, 1:0). Alexis Lafreniere (11th and 28th minutes) and Chris Kreider (47) scored in regulation time for the Rangers. Vincent Trocheck (88) scored the winning goal in the second overtime. Jake Guentzel (16, 39) and Russian defender Dmitry Orlov (20) scored for the guests.

Rangers forward Artemi Panarin scored three assists and extended his personal scoring streak in the 2024 Stanley Cup to three matches. In total, in the 2023/24 season, taking into account the regular season (120 points, 49 goals and 71 assists) and the playoffs (7 points, 3+4), the Russian scored 127 points (52+75) and surpassed the achievement of Jaromir Jagr (season- 2005/06, 124 points, 54+70), setting a new club record for scoring in a single league season.
Rangers goalkeeper Igor Shesterkin stopped 54 out of 57 shots and was recognized as the second star of the match.
Carolina forward Andrei Svechnikov scored the assist. Hurricanes forward Evgeny Kuznetsov missed the match.
The score in the series up to four wins became 2-0 in favor of the Rangers. The third game of the confrontation will take place in Raleigh on the night of May 10, Moscow time.
