ST. PETERSBURG, May 12. A criminal case was opened after the death of three teenagers in a car that fell into a river in the Leningrad region, reports the regional SUCC of the Russian Federation.
“»The investigative department for the city of Vyborg of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the Leningrad Region has opened a criminal case on the grounds of an accident on the section of the Ushkovo-Graviynoye highway in the Vyborg district of the Leningrad Region, as a result of which three teenagers died, on the grounds of a crime under Part 5 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code RF (violation of traffic rules and operation of vehicles, resulting in the death of two or more persons through negligence),” the message says. 
Earlier, the press service of the GUMVD for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region reported that last night in the Vyborg district of the Leningrad Region, a Skoda car ignored the police’s demand to stop, increased speed and disappeared. Police officers in a police car gave chase. A kilometer later, the police stopped at the bridge over the Roshchinka River, where they found two teenagers, 14 and 16 years old, who had climbed ashore. They were passengers in a Skoda car. The driver of the foreign car lost control and fell into the river. In addition to the survivors, there were three other schoolchildren aged 14-16 years old in the car. During the search, by the morning they managed to find a car and the bodies of two teenagers at the bottom of the river and pull it out. The search for the third continues. As police officers established, the teenagers were intoxicated.
According to the investigation, a minor, while driving a car, lost control and ran into a tree, the car fell into the river. As a result of the accident, the car sank, three minors died, two received bodily injuries of varying degrees of severity.
Investigations are currently underway. “In addition, the investigative body will evaluate the actions of those who allowed teenagers to drive a vehicle, as well as the activities of the relevant authorities of the prevention system,” the department reports.
