The Oktyabrsky District Court of St. Petersburg sent Rakhmatshokh Kurbonov, the driver of the bus that fell into the Moika, to pre-trial detention until July 9. This was reported by the joint press service of the city courts.
The 44-year-old driver was detained on May 10 on charges of violating traffic rules (Part 5 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code). On this day, on the embankment of the Moika River, a bus crashed into two cars, broke through the fence of the Potseluev Bridge and fell into the water. As Fontanka and 78.RU wrote, there were eight people on the bus. According to the Investigative Committee, seven of them died.

The Investigative Committee also opened a case regarding the provision of services that do not meet safety requirements (Part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code). Today, security forces detained the head of a convoy of the Taxi company, the organizer of transportation.
According to the department, the detained employee was required to monitor “compliance with labor and transport discipline, including the work and rest schedule of drivers.” The Investigative Committee emphasized that the driver of the bus that fell into the river “was not provided with the necessary rest time for several days.”
Later, the Investigative Committee’s department for St. Petersburg reported that another criminal case was opened against the bus driver Rakhmatshoh Kurbonov — about a fictitious registration of foreigners in February–March 2024 (Part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code).
