The police detained a St. Petersburg resident who poured paint on Russian flags and Victory banners due to disagreement with the “existing regime and authorities”

A 45-year-old resident of St. Petersburg was detained in a criminal case due to the fact that he poured paint on Russian flags and Victory banners in the Primorsky district of the city. The detention was reported by the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Irina Volk.

According to Volk, a criminal case has been opened against the man for desecration of the national flag (Article 329 of the Criminal Code). Fontanka writes that the investigation considers the detainee to be involved in the damage to three Russian flags and two Victory banners. At the same time, according to the publication, a resident of St. Petersburg is also accused of rehabilitating Nazism (Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code).

Fontanka also published a video with a detainee — in the video, a man said that he was damaging flags with black and red paint while using a syringe. The man explained his action by disagreement with “the existing regime and power.”

According to him, he colored the flags several times shortly before Victory Day — in May of this and last year. As follows from the video, the person involved in the case was Nikolai Nikolaevich, born in 1978 — he was born in Sayanogorsk, Krasnoyarsk Territory, now the man lives in St. Petersburg on Korolev Avenue.
