BARVIKHA (Moscow region), May 13, Andrey Senchenko. Magnitogorsk Metallurg goalkeeper Ilya Nabokov was recognized as the best newcomer of the 2023/24 season of the Continental Hockey League (KHL).
The award ceremony took place on May 13 in Barvikha at the closing ceremony of the KHL season.
In the 2023/24 KHL season, Nabokov played 66 matches in the regular season and playoffs, won 39 victories, reflected 93.4 percent of shots, kept seven clean sheets and won the Gagarin Cup. The 21-year-old goalkeeper was named the most valuable player of the playoffs.
Also nominated for the award were Metallurg Magnitogorsk forward Roman Kantserov and Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod forward Anton Silaev.
The winner of the Alexey Cherepanov Prize, which is awarded to the best newcomer at the end of the KHL season, is determined by voting among the coaches of the teams that took part in the KHL championship. In previous seasons, the award was received by Ilya Proskuryakov, Anatoly Nikontsev, Pavel Zdunov, Dmitry Lugin, Valery Nichushkin, Andrey Vasilevsky, Maxim Mamin, Artem Alyaev, Vladimir Tkachev, Vitaly Kravtsov, Ilya Konovalov, Artem Galimov, Egor Chinakhov, Arseny Gritsyuk and Nikita Grebenkin.
