MOSCOW, May 13. In order not to get caught by scammers on Telegram, who write to their victims under the guise of technical support employees of the messenger and report a “request for deletion” allegedly received from them account», it is necessary to enable two-factor authentication, says Anton Nemkin, a member of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, in his Telegram channel.
“Now scammers write to their victims under the guise of technical support staff of the messenger and report that they allegedly received an “account deletion request.” Next, they are asked to go to a phishing site that is visually similar to Telegram, where you need to enter a phone number and a security code that allows you to log in to the account,» he wrote.
As Nemkin notes, according to Roskachestvo, about 5% of messenger users have already encountered this type of fraud. The deputy believes that this is quite a lot, given the novelty of the scheme.
“Let me remind you that an additional method of protection for users can be the activation of two-factor authentication. In addition, it is always important to remember that government agencies or banking organizations will never contact a citizen through the messenger, and also be wary of unknown accounts offering to switch to a third-party resource,» he added.
According to Nemkin, Telegram has become one of the most popular platforms among scammers.
«There are quite objective reasons for this — the total number of Telegram users in Russia has already reached 85 million… This is what scammers take advantage of, migrating from social networks and other instant messengers. I am glad that the management of the messenger reacts quite quickly to the emergence of new types of fraud. For example, fraudulent groups are quickly blocked if users leave complaints,” Nemkin concluded. -0-
