MOSCOW, May 14. It is necessary that funds from major sponsors be directed for the development of children's sports, but talented children were not sent abroad, said State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin.
““It is necessary that funds from major sponsors begin to be allocated to the development of children’s sports and, of course, that the practice of selecting the most talented (athletes) and then sending them abroad should be stopped,” Volodin said at a plenary meeting of the State Duma.
He noted that a healthy lifestyle should become the main goal of the work of the Ministry of Sports, first of all we are talking about mass sports.
““If the minister builds work in this direction, our (State Duma) support will definitely be provided to him,” added the speaker of the State Duma.
The State Duma Speaker also noted that funds need to be redirected to support youth sports schools.
«There is money, we just need to redirect it to children, to support children's and youth sports schools, that's what we're talking about. Today they are either in federations or in clubs. Look, the budget of federations, look clubs’ budgets, and you will see that these are budgets equal to funding in several regions in matters of sports,” Volodin said and called for such topics to be brought up and not to be afraid to make decisions, since “without the support of parliament it will be difficult for the minister.”
