The case of the largest bribe in the history of modern Russia came to court

MOSCOW, May 23. The Supreme Court sent to Balashikha the case of two Investigative Committee investigators accused of receiving a record bribe of more than 2.7 thousand bitcoins, the court’s press service reported.
“The court granted the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office to change the territorial jurisdiction of the case,” said the agency’s interlocutor.

In the dock are former investigators, 35-year-old Marat Tambiev and Kristina Lyakhovenko. They are charged with several counts of bribery on an especially large scale, preparations to receive a bribe, as well as abuse of power and falsification of evidence. According to investigators, they extorted from hackers from the Infraud Organization group an amount of 2718 bitcoins.

Major Tambiev, who headed the investigative department of the capital's main headquarters of the Investigative Committee for the Tverskoy district, was arrested in March 2022. According to the investigation, during the investigation of the Infraud Organization case, he extorted a bribe in cryptocurrency from the defendants and achieved his goal. Subsequently, the accused complained about him to the FSB, and the investigator was detained. The hackers received suspended sentences.
Lyakhovenko was later arrested. Investigators believe that she illegally transferred the seized electronic storage media “to find the cryptocurrency contained in them and subsequently transfer it to the addresses of electronic crypto-wallets belonging to Tambiev.” In addition, the accomplices did not take measures to arrest and transfer to the state the rest of the hackers’ cryptocurrency, equivalent to more than 14 billion rubles.
Tambiev and Lyakhovenko do not admit guilt and deny receiving money.
