MOSCOW, May 23. The desire of a number of Western states to turn space into an arena for military operations is of particular concern, said the head of Roscosmos, Yuri Borisov.
“The desire of a number of Western states to transform space into an arena of possible military operations is of particular concern,” Borisov said at a meeting of the heads of space agencies of the BRICS member countries.
Previously, Russia proposed a draft UN Security Council resolution on countries’ reaffirmation of their commitment not to use space to deploy weapons. The document, among other things, called on all countries to take urgent measures to prevent the permanent placement of weapons in space. The draft resolution also called for steps that would prevent the use of force in space, from space toward Earth, and from Earth against objects in outer space.
The UN Security Council voted in favor of The resolution was voted on by Russia, China, Algeria, Guyana, Ecuador, Mozambique, and Sierra Leone. Switzerland abstained. The USA, France, Britain, Japan, Slovenia, South Korea, and Malta were against. The resolution was not adopted because it did not receive the required nine out of 15 votes.
