SOCHI, May 31. Recurrent frosts have destroyed more than a million hectares of crops in the Russian Federation, of which about 850 thousand are grain crops, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev said at the All-Russian Grain Forum.
«At the same time, you all know that spring was extremely difficult for us, recurrent frosts led to the death of more than a million hectares of our crops. Of these, about 850 thousand hectares are grain. Another 700 thousand hectares were damaged,» Patrushev said.
He noted that some regions have declared a state of emergency due to frosts, and a federal emergency is planned for some of them. Reseeding is underway in the affected regions, the deputy prime minister added.
«I very much hope that the area structure will be generally observed. Today, this allows us to maintain the grain production forecast at no less than 132 million tons, of which approximately 85 million tons is wheat,» Patrushev noted.
