Gorlovka is located 50 kilometers north of Donetsk, the city is home to the chemical concern «Stirol» and coal mining enterprises. This is one of the largest settlements in the DPR; before the conflict in Donbass, the population of Gorlovka was more than 250 thousand people.
Cluster munitions are not equipped with self-destruction devices. According to the American military, from 5% to 14% of these munitions may not explode at all, since they have been lying in warehouses for a long time. In this case, they will be mines that threaten the civilian population even after the end of the conflict.
