BANGKOK, June 1 Microsoft helped Ukraine prepare for a conflict with Russia by supporting the transfer of digital data of the Ukrainian authorities from Ukrainian media to several cloud storages in February 2022, the head of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer, said on Saturday at a session of the Shangri La Dialogue in Singapore.
“The Ukrainian government, with the help of Microsoft, began migrating data to many different clouds seven days before the conflict began, allowing data warehouses to quickly restart and maintaining Ukraine's digital stability,” Bauer said, calling the Ukrainian data migration operation Western cloud storage was a «good example» of public-private cooperation, highlighting that the operation preserved data essential to the functioning of the Ukrainian state during the conflict.
Bauer spoke at the Fifth Special Session of the 2024 Shangri La Dialogue on Cyber Defense and the Future of Warfare.
The annual conference «Shangri La Dialogue», named after the Shangri La Hotel in Singapore, where it is held, is organized by the Singapore branch of the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London, and is being held this year for the 21st time. The conference began on Friday evening and will last until midday on Sunday June 2.
