MOSCOW, May 31. Capital Inspectorate of the Federal Tax Service of Russia No. 3 asks the Moscow Arbitration Court to declare bankrupt JSC Vanderkind, which managed Russian stores toys of the international chain Hamleys, follows from the information in the file of arbitration cases.
The tax authorities' application was received by the court on May 30 and has not yet been accepted for consideration. The case file does not currently indicate the amount of Vanderkind’s debt to the budget. 
As of 2023, Vanderkind JSC was controlled by businessman Alexander Mamut. Now its owners are not listed in the Unified State Register of Legal Entities.
The company's main creditor was Trust Bank, with which it was involved in several legal proceedings arising from the 2017 loan agreement. So, “Trust” in the fall of 2022 asked the court to recover from the borrower more than 2.4 billion rubles of debt with interest; a year later the court rejected this claim.
In turn, Vanderkind twice initiated a forced change in the terms of the loan agreement. The first time was due to Covid restrictions in 2020, the second time was due to sanctions in 2022, when brands such as Hamleys and Lego refused to supply goods, and the retailer had to rebuild its work and incur unexpected losses. 
Both times, the courts satisfied the requirements and softened the terms of the loan for the borrower. Thus, in February 2023, the Moscow Arbitration Court extended the end of loan settlements until December 31, 2024. After this, the parties settled their differences and on appeal, Vanderkind abandoned the claim. The terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
The Hamleys chain, owned by Indian businessman Mukesh Abani, had 155 stores around the world, seven of them were in Russia — in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Sochi. Business media previously wrote that the Russian part of the Hamleys toy store chain is 90% controlled by Mamut’s structures. Now, on the site of some Hamleys stores in Russia, there are stores called “Vinny”.
