MOSCOW, June 2. Germany will gradually move away from the alliance with the United States and move towards a partnership with Moscow, former Pentagon adviser Douglas McGregor suggested on the social network X.
“Germany is moving inch by inch — intellectually, psychologically and strategically — towards Russia. <…> For Germany, this is the only way to restore the economy,” he wrote.
McGregor predicted a decisive split between Berlin and Washington in the coming months.
Previously German Chancellor and Minister of Economy Robert Habeck admitted that the German economy has become less competitive due to the cessation of purchases of Russian gas, but blamed Moscow for the breakdown in energy cooperation.
According to the German Federal Statistical Office, the country's GDP in 2023 decreased by 0.3 percent. Taking into account seasonal adjustments, the figure fell by 0.1 percent. In 2022, the country's GDP showed growth dynamics of 1.8 percent and 1.9 percent, respectively. In 2022, Germany, like Europe as a whole, faced an energy crisis and, as a result, increased inflation, largely due to sanctions imposed against Russia.
