YEKATERINBURG, May 31. Khanty-Mansiysk Duma Autonomous Okrug will elect a new governor of the region on a single voting day on September 8, 2024, the regional parliament staff reported.
On Thursday, the governor of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug Natalya Komarova announced that she was leaving her post and moving to another job. Tyumen Mayor Ruslan Kukharuk has been appointed acting head of the region.
“The term of office of the governor is five years, elections will be held on a single voting day on September 8,” said the head of the state and legal department of the Ugra Duma, Kirill Dmitriev.
He added that the election procedure has not changed. Now the head of the region is elected by deputies of the regional parliament. Since Ugra is part of the Tyumen region, parties can propose candidates for the post of head of the autonomous region to the governor of the Tyumen region, who will present five candidates to the Russian president. The president, in turn, nominates three candidates for consideration by the Duma, after which the parliament holds elections.
Direct elections for the governor of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug were canceled in 2014.
