A court in St. Petersburg sentenced a citizen of the United States and Russia to 3.5 years in a penal colony because of two posts with insults to the St. George ribbon

The St. Petersburg City Court sentenced US and Russian citizen Yuri Malev to 3.5 years in a penal colony in the case of the rehabilitation of Nazism (Part 4 of Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code). This was reported by the press service of the city courts.

The man was also banned from publishing on the Internet for a year and a half.

Malev was detained and arrested at the end of last year. He had been living in the United States continuously since 1991 and came to visit shortly before his arrest. According to investigators, in the summer of 2022, a man published on Odnoklassniki an image of a St. George ribbon with a caption that the courts’ press service described as: “an identification mark of a person with a non-traditional sexual orientation.”

In addition, as security officials claim , on the eve of May 9, 2023, Malev published on social networks an image of a corpse with the caption “how to wear the St. George’s ribbon correctly.” The man admitted his guilt, his case was considered in a special manner.

The denunciation of Malev to the Investigative Committee was written on behalf of an 86-year-old pensioner who survived the siege of Leningrad during World War II.
