The Portuguese company Alma from the city of Oliveira de Azemeis announced the Sprint restomod based on the Alfa Romeo coupe of the same name, produced from 1976 to 1989. The donor Alfa Romeo Sprint coupe, having passed through the Alma workshop, will receive an appearance in the spirit of the Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint 6C rally prototype, a modernized interior and a completely redesigned technical stuffing.
The Sprint coupe (it can also be called a three-door liftback) is one of the most popular and cheapest sports cars of the Alfa Romeo brand, its total circulation was about 120 thousand copies. The coupe was developed on the platform of the budget model Alfa Romeo Alfasud, which was produced from 1971 to 1983 in hatchback, fastback and station wagon bodies. Until 1983, the coupe had the compound name Alfasud Sprint, and after the original model was discontinued it became known simply as Sprint.
The Alfasud platform is front-wheel drive, but with a longitudinally mounted 4-cylinder boxer gasoline engine (on the Sprint coupe its displacement varied from 1.2 to 1.7 liters), the front suspension is McPherson type, the rear is dependent with a Panhard stabilizing rod. All wheels are equipped with disc brakes, while the front discs, in order to reduce unsprung masses, are located not in the wheels, but on the sides of the gearbox.
In 1982, Autodelta, the motorsport division of Alfa Romeo, with the help of coachbuilder Zagato, produced two prototypes of the Alfasud Sprint 6C coupe for the monstrous Group B rally that appeared that same year. The prototypes had a mid-engine layout and a widened body, the place of the rear seat was taken by a 2.5-liter petrol V6 from the more high-status rear-wheel drive Alfa Romeo GTV6 coupe. Unfortunately, Alfa Romeo was not in the best financial shape in those years, so its management did not give the green light to the Alfasud Sprint 6C project, but it became an inspiration for the founder of Alma, Rafael Soares, an experienced automotive engineer and restorer of classic Alfa Romeos.

Alma’s portfolio already includes restomods based on the Alfa Romeo 75 sedan, Alfa Romeo GTV6 coupe and Alfa Romeo 147 GTA hot hatch, but the Alma Sprint coupe is a higher-level project that requires fairly large-scale alterations of the donor car. The Alma Sprint coupe retained the original front-engine layout, but received a developed widebody body kit made of carbon fiber in the style of the Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint 6C. With its muscular sidewalls, the Alma Sprint is also reminiscent of the Lancia 037 and Maserati Shamal. The original lighting equipment was replaced with new ones from Hella, and the standard exterior mirrors gave way to more elegant streamlined ones from Vitaloni.

The interior of the Alma Sprint has retained the aesthetics of the 80s, but has been refined with modern materials (in particular, Alcantara upholstery and polished aluminum inserts) and is free of inherent ergonomic shortcomings: new sports front seats with 4-point Sabelt seat belts have been installed, the position of the steering column has been changed, The interior is given additional shine by a new Zagato steering wheel and a custom-made aluminum gear lever; a modern audio speaker with Bluetooth connectivity is integrated into the central tunnel.

Under the hood of the Alma Sprint is the classic 1.8-liter petrol boxer Alfa Romeo, but with redesigned cylinder heads, new forged pistons, a new crankshaft, new camshafts, an upgraded lubrication system and a new stainless steel exhaust system. Power is provided by a pair of carefully tuned Dellorto carburetors. The final output of the engine was 160 hp, all of which is transmitted to the front wheels through an upgraded 5-speed manual transmission; a self-locking differential is offered as an option. The suspension geometry has been changed to accommodate a wider body, adjustable shock absorber struts and modern powerful disc brakes have been installed. Alma Sprint weighs only 880 kg.
Alma is going to release only 20 Sprint restomods, each will be assembled and designed taking into account the individual wishes of the customer, the company itself is ready to find a donor car. The first copies will be delivered to customers in the third quarter of 2025, the price has not been disclosed, but it is clear that it amounts to hundreds of thousands of euros.
