MOSCOW, June 5The Simonovsky Court of Moscow sentenced to restriction of freedom, but released from punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, a former metropolitan obstetrician who caused serious injury to a child five years ago; she will have to pay her parents more than 2 million rubles, the court’s press service reported.
The court recognized Elena Verbitskaya, who in 2019 worked at the City Clinical Hospital named after S.S. Yudin in Moscow as an obstetrician-gynecologist, guilty under Part 2 of Art. 118 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing grievous harm to health through negligence due to improper performance by a person of his professional duties). 
“»The court sentenced her to two years of restriction of freedom with the establishment of certain restrictions, with a ban on practicing medicine for a period of 1 year. Based on Article 78 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the court released Verbitskaya from serving the imposed sentence due to the expiration of the statute of limitations for bringing her to justice criminal liability,» the agency's interlocutor said.
The court clarified that the civil claims of the victims in the amount of more than 2 million rubles were also partially satisfied.
As an informed source explained, the victims are the parents of a newborn boy who received serious injuries during childbirth, which resulted in the impossibility of the child’s normal development and disability.
Initially, a criminal case was opened under a more serious charge of providing services that do not meet safety requirements, causing grievous bodily harm through negligence, the interlocutor added.
