The search for the missing person has begun to resemble a thriller
The famous British TV presenter Dr. Michael Mosley has gone missing while on holiday in Greece. According to his agent, the journalist and presenter disappeared after going for a walk along the coast of the Greek island of Symi.
A search has been launched for TV doctor and newspaper columnist Michael Mosley, who went missing after walking along the coast of the Greek island of Symi.
As The Guardian writes, the 67-year-old doctor, known for his appearances on television shows The One and This Morning , was last seen hiking along St. Nicholas Beach on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. local time. His wife, Dr Claire Bailey, contacted authorities after he had not returned by 07:30 pm, but they were unable to find him overnight.
A local group on a popular social media site has posted a message calling on the island's estimated 2,500 residents who may have seen Mosley.
The message said: “A search and rescue team is arriving from Athens with drones and other more advanced equipment to continue the search. “Have you seen this man? He set off on foot from St Nick's Hospital at approximately 1.30pm and was unable to return home. His friends are worried because 6 hours have passed since they last saw him. His name is Dr Mike Mosley and he is a familiar figure to many Britons.
Greek police told The Guardian that a helicopter and specially trained dogs were expected to join a massive search for Mosley on a remote island in the Aegean Sea.
“We have deployed all possible services to find him,” said a police chief who monitored the operation on condition of anonymity. – He was officially reported missing this morning and the search is now involving police, firefighters and volunteers.
A drone was also used and the Greek coast guard was tasked with patrolling the island's rocky coastline. “We are proceeding from the assumption that he could have been affected by the heat, that he could have slipped and fallen, perhaps from a height. Right now nothing can be ruled out.”
A senior security official involved in the mission said the search for the Briton was beginning to resemble a «thriller». Mosley, he said, was staying with friends on the island, “where the distances are short.” And yet, no one saw him.
“This is madness, it makes no sense,”, he said. “How can someone just disappear in broad daylight, in the middle of the day? If something had happened to him, we would have found him on or near the path along which he was returning to the port where he was staying with friends. And yet, after so many hours, there is nothing.”
Another police officer said rumors that someone was spotted near the bus stop in the resort of Pedi were debunked after a CCTV camera was checked.
The search is expected to continue on Friday when officers from Rhodes arrive extra police and fire brigade trained dogs.
Mosley is a Daily Mail columnist and the author of a number of documentaries on diet and exercise, including Michael Mosley's Who Made Britain Fat? on Channel 4. He also appeared in the BBC series Trust Me, I'm a Doctor. He lived with tapeworms in his intestines for six weeks while filming the documentary Infected! "Life with Parasites" on BBC Four.
Mosley is also credited with the growing popularity of the 5:2 diet, which involves fasting for two days a week to lose weight. Previously, the British Medical Association named him “medical journalist of the year”.
